Customer-supplied SIM's

Wildeye loggers are designed to connect in most of the world’s regions, using our standard SIM’s (Telstra Australia, Verizon USA, and Vodafone Global for everywhere else). If this doesn’t work for you, get in touch and we can discuss supplying your own SIM’s, although there are some caveats.

The charge for customer-owned SIM’s are:

  • Orders 1-19 units - $190NZD surcharge per logger for custom SIM, normal 2wk leadtime

  • Orders 20+ units - No extra charge, 8 week leadtime. This is our preferred solution.

  • Warranty replacements - No extra charge, normal 2wk leadtime

This charge covers the extra production, inventory, and support time. If your order is for 20 or more units however, we can waive this fee because the loggers can be made as a special run through our normal production process. There will however be an 8 week leadtime on these production runs. For any replacement loggers covered by warranty, there will not be any additional charges, but you'll still need to supply us with a replacement sim (we cannot retrieve the old sim from the faulty logger).

Background:

We have designed our production process around 3 types of SIM's for various regions of the world:

  1. Australia - Telstra Aus

  2. USA - Verizon US

  3. Rest of world - Vodafone Global

These SIMs are called "Chip SIM's", which are electric sim chips soldered down directly to the PCB. They are not plastic sim cards, and are more resilient to vibration, moisture, and heating/cooling cycles than plastic sim cards. They are soldered to the PCB at the time of PCB manufacture, right at the beginning of our production process.

For orders 20+, we can send your custom SIM's to our manufacturer as part of a custom production run, hence the waived fee. But for smaller orders we need to receive unfinished product, hand-modify them with the new sim before configuring, testing and finally potting (waterproofing).

Although Chip SIM's are our preference, we can accept plastic "nano" SIM's too, where a sim holder is hand-soldered to the PCB.

Any custom sims need to arrive to Wildeye in an "Activated" state, and the "APN" code supplied, to allow us to configure & test them.
